LxDIIโs work on listening protocols and vocabularies have interlinked with each research phase. Rather than separate the two topics we are working through the possibilities that a protocol has both direct and implied vocabularies embedded in its construction.
In generating vocabularies we do not want to produce a conventional glossary of words from a narrow singular voice. Instead, we are attempting to prototype a lively tool, narrative or resource that tells a story of disciplinary connections through how they listen. The hope is that the integrity of situated listening can be held as it is stretched across other modes and approaches.
A web-based platform is in development with our partner Finetuned, to link the two aspects of protocols and vocabularies. The site also aims to reimagine metadata so that biographies, context and sensory plurality; often marginalized, can come to the fore.
